The use of the word accolades has gradually become a common trend in Nigeria. Almost every video has that one person talking about ‘paying dues’ and ‘deserving accolades’ in a rather comic way.

Well, the originator of this trend, Nollywood actor and comedian, Charles Okocha, has finally spoken on the reason for starting the trend. In an interview with Punch, he stated that in the video which shows him spraying money on his mother, he was just appreciating her because she did her best for him.

In his words, “She has paid her dues and there is no accolade that will be enough for her. I was also trying to make other people appreciate their mothers because there are people who will give anything for their mothers to be alive. If your mother is still alive, always appreciate her and make her happy. My mum trained me and stood by me to this point.
